Mission Australia’s Creative Youth Initiative (CYI) is now open for enrolments for Semester 2 which starts in July.
CYI helps to develop the creativity of young people at risk by providing a variety of free creative programs for young people. The participants are aged between 16-25 and facing challenges in their lives, such as homelessness, mental health issues, substance abuse, family breakdown or unemployment.
For over two decades, CYI have run a music program called Sounds of the Street (SOTS), a 20-week TAFE accredited music course that teaches students to compose, perform and record their own music. Not only do students have the opportunity to learn an instrument, the music they make is professionally mixed and mastered onto a CD with students performing their compositions at the annual CD launch.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, contact the CYI staff on 02 9356 8897 or email the Student Support Coordinator on mahoneyj@missionaustralia.com.au
MusicNSW is a supporter of the CYI initiative, we recently ran a music workshop with them, which you can read about here.
