South by Southwest (SXSW) is a set of film, interactive, and music festivals and conferences that take place each year in mid March in Austin, Texas, US. Organizers of the 2015 festival are giving artists the chance to plan their trip to Austin over eight months in advance.
SXSW artist submissions open July 8. SXSW is a great opportunity for artists and bands ready to take the next step in their music career, as well as it is for aspiring music industry professionals. SXSW is spread across 110 venues over five days, and the conference boasts more than 2,200 showcases.
72 Australian artists were invited to perform in March this year. Sounds Australia’s Executive Producer Millie Millgate told TMN: “For those acts even contemplating showcasing at SXSW, we’d encourage you to apply early. Not only does it mean you’ll be listened to by fresher ears, it also gives you a greater lead time to prepare your VISA petitions and set up additional performance opportunities.”
How to apply:
Artists will need to submit their applications via an Electronic Press Kit at Sonicbirds, the cost is US$33. The fee rises to US $45 on September 12 and closes October 10. A committee of over 100 evaluators review each acts EPK (recordings, bio, video, websites, press releases, etc) before choosing.
