Sound Summit – Australia’s premier festival for independent and innovative music – is currently open for proposals from artists and speakers to participate in the 2013 festival!
Sound Summit, a project of MusicNSW – now in its 14th year, will for the very first time take place in Sydney. The festival will continue to provide a unique platform for celebrating, exposing and furthering the work of musicians, producers, composers, labels, promoters and industry personnel working at the forefront of Australia’s vibrant independent music scene. Through a diverse schedule of showcases, performances, panels, workshops, Q&A’s and debates, Sound Summit gives both the artist and attendee the opportunity to participate in the global exchange of ideas, techniques, issues and trends affecting the contemporary musical landscape.
The inclusion of artists and speakers who propose novel, challenging, progressive and topically relevant content to be featured at the Sound Summit has always been an integral part of fulfilling this mission statement. In previous years, successful applications have ranged from individual artists, speakers or bands, label showcases, workshops, panel discussions, and broader festival initiatives. Applicants have the opportunity to not only help the festival grow, but get to participate in a dynamic and forward-thinking program of events that has direct impact on the future of Australian independent arts and culture.
We are seeking applications for exciting new sounds, ideas and projects whose practice relates to independent, original and emerging music. With the change of the festival’s location to Sydney, whole spectrums of new possibilities await. Your application could relate to the use of a particular space, a showcase idea, or a relevant topic for discussion; whether the proposal deals with new technologies, politics, theory, the media, or performance – if it relates to independent music or addresses issues that are relevant to independent music culture, then we want to hear from you!
Speakers:
Do you have a topic to be debated, a skill to be taught in a workshop or an idea that fits into the general scope of Sound Summit? Are there any issues prevalent in independent music culture that need to be discussed? This could be Sydney-centric, have a wider national focus, or to do with creative practice. Whether this is an open idea, or a fully formed program get in touch.
Artists:
Are you an artist or collective that would like to be a part of Sound Summit? This could be a performance, showcase, installation, collaborative piece etc. The festival’s aims are to service artists whose music practices lie outside conventional linear pathways and share the objectives of the festival. Sound Summit wishes to advise that this is not a general artist showcasing opportunity. We strongly suggest that you view past-years programming to gauge whether your project is relevant and appropriate to the festival’s aims.
