The 2012 National Indigenous Music Awards are approaching, and they have officially revealed that their first two acts will be The Medics from Queensland and the Yabu Band from Western Australia. The award show will be held on August 11 at the Gardens Amphitheatre in Darwin and will be revealing the rest of the lineup in June. The Indigenous Music Awards have come a long way since being a smaller scale event in just NT, to now a national awards night recognising some of the best talent in the Indigenous music scene.
It has also been announced that the awards are working with triple J Unearthed to find talented unsigned Indigenous acts around the country. One of the acts will get the chance to play at the awards show, flown in anywhere from Australia with two nights accommodation provided in Darwin plus promoted on triple J Unearthed radio.
“We hope to find some hidden gems out there just on the cusp of breaking through,” said Triple J presenter Maggie Collins.
