1.2 million Australians are now tuning into digital radio on a weekly basis, a higher rate of consumption than originally predicted.
The Digital Radio Industry Report 2012 released by Commercial Radio Australia (CRA) demonstrated that this figure covered listenership in the states Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
The PwC Forecast for Digital Radio Adoption has been updated as a result, now forecasting that household penetration of digital radio will hit 16% by December 2013, which is six month earlier than the original forecast predicted.
The CRA Chief Executive Joan Warner believes the increase is a result of the intensive marketing strategies of the radio industry, a wider choice of receivers, and a low price of only $29 for the digital upgrade.
