MusicNSW, through support received by Arts NSW, recently announced a new quick response grant program to support artists and artist managers in developing export opportunities whilst attending Australian industry conferences, trade fairs and other events in 2011. The first round of funding opportunities opened in July 2011 with MusicNSW receiving a substantial number of applications in what was a highly competitive round.
MusicNSW is thrilled to announce it will be assisting six NSW musicians network and showcase their talent at the forthcoming BigSound Conference in Brisbane this September. Those artists are Lanie Lane, WIM, The Paper Scissors, Floating Me, Papa VS Pretty and The Laurels.
This program focuses on attendance at Australian conferences and trade fairs as a means to developing relationships in international markets prior to travelling overseas, and to assist in the development of business skills and a national audience. It is also available to support career-defining opportunities that would otherwise be cost prohibitive to artists, which may consist of major support opportunities or other key showcase events.
Round 2 Applications are open now and will close on August 30th, 2011.
Submissions can only be made by artists (and/ or their managers) based in NSW. All applicants must be Australian citizens or have permanent residence status in Australia. Find more info here.

FLOATING ME
Featuring members of Cog, Scarymother and Karnivool, Floating Me are a sonically exhilarating act, touring off the back of their self titled debut album.
LANIE LANE
Lanie Lane has been enjoying a rapid rise to success, with her sultry, smokey voice in high demand, recording with the likes of Tim Rogers, Claire Bowditch and even Jack White at his Nashville studios.
THE LAURELS
This Sydney based four-piece who formed back in 2006 and after winning the USYD Band Competition have been quietly carving a following with their introspective shoegaze stylings and frequent band collaborations.
PAPA VS PRETTY
Papa VS Pretty have made a lot of waves with their intensely energetic live act, releasing their debut album, United in Isolation, to rave reviews earlier this year.
THE PAPER SCISSORS
The Paper Scissors have been providing airwaves and live stages with tasty pop-treats since their smash “We Don’t Walk” captured the attention of FBi and Triple J. They followed it up with a killer record released earlier this year, In Loving Memory.
WIM
WIM have been doing the rounds in Sydney, playing everywhere from small bars in Chinatown, to OAF and onto the Metro before being snapped up by Modular and releasing two singles this year.
