Following a booked out series of talks, Vivid Creative Sydney, (a key part of the Vivid Sydney festival of light, music and ideas: 27 May – 13 June) today announce the final instalment of the 2011 program.
The Museum of Contemporary Art will house live music showcases, film premieres, industry social events and night tours. Meanwhile the city will play host to exhibitions, parties and performances as event organisers welcome the inaugural ‘Vivid Creative Sydney Recommends’ –a guide to the hottest events happening across the city during the festival.
Vivid Creative Sydney’s weekend at the MCA (10 – 12 June):
MUSIC OPEN DAY: How do you get your music get on radio? Meet the people who decide what you listen to when FBi Radio and Music NSW’s Music Open Day comes to Vivid Creative Sydney. Speakers include FBi’s Music Director Dan Zilber, Triple J’s Assistant Music Director Nick Findlay, 2SER’s Music Director Andrew Khedoori and Chris Johnson, AMRAP Manager.
POP ART FILM & MUSIC: In partnership with Sydney Film Festival, this special event will screen a soon-to-be-announced Australian premiere, followed by a night of free live bands featured in the film.
DEBATE: IS SYDNEY PRICING CREATIVITY OUT OF THE PICTURE? Examine the challenges facing filmmakers, musicians, artists, designers, architects and digital producers in trying to launch and run innovative projects in Sydney, and meet people finding creative solutions. Nicole Dennis (ACOM), James Winter (Queen St Studios), Merryn Spencer (Parramatta City Council) and more.
PANEL: HOW DOES ART HELP? BUILDING CREATIVE CITIES AROUND THE WORLD: Explore the positive potential for art and culture to engage people and transform our cities, with Dieter Gorny from the European Centre for the Creative Economy, Katja Aßmann from the European Capital of Culture (Ruhr 2010) and artists directing ground-breaking projects across Europe and Asia. Markus Ambach (Germany), Matthias Rick from Raumlabor Berlin (Germany) and filmmaker Joe Lawlor (UK).
MCA NIGHT TOUR: Discover the Museum of Contemporary Art with curator, Joel Mu, as he guides Vivid Creative Sydney audiences on an exclusive tour of the galleries after dark.
SYDNEY MUSIC SHOWCASE: BROKEN STONE RECORDS: Sydney independent label, Broken Stone Records boasts an impeccable roster of fresh-faced local artists. This free live music and art showcase features performances from Sister Jane, Magnetic Heads, Caitlin Park and The Maple Trail. Expect nostalgic roadhouse blues, pop recognition and beautiful singer songwriters.
PORTFOLIO MASTERCLASS: The Loop is Australia’s online career network for creative talent. At this one off event, The Loop Directors Pip Jamieson and Matt Fayle plus online book publishers Blurb, invite audiences to an afternoon of networking and portfolio review with some of Sydney’s top creatives.

“This diverse line-up of sessions at the MCA will expose outstanding local talent from the worlds of music, film, design and visual arts; and, importantly, these sessions give us a forum to discuss the big issues about the future of Sydney’s creative sector.

Registration for the MCA events opens 9AM FRIDAY 13 MAY and with the first line-up of events selling out in record time, it is advised you sign up early to avoid disappointment.
