NSW Minister for the Arts, The Hon. Virginia Judge today announced $250,000 in funding to assist young people across the State to stage their own all-ages, drug and alcohol free music events.
Indentwill distribute the money in the form of event grants, demonstrating a further commitment to the continuation of the Indent Tour and ongoing support for youth entertainment.
“The Indent Project has steadily grown over the past ten years, into the premier resource for sustainable all ages entertainment throughout the State,” Minister Judge said.
“The changes to Indent Grants Program in 2011 and the addition of the Indent Tour, will see an increase in the professionalism, skills and know how for the future operators of the contemporary music industry.”
Indents two grant categories, the Event Development Grant and the Grass Roots Grants, will fund 21 Indent Event Teams with a total of 43 events proposed including Youth Festivals, Band Nights, Workshops and competitions providing a stage for hundreds of young and emerging bands.
Many of the teams that applied for the Grass Roots grant were first-time applicants, and it was inspiring to see such a strong and robust level of proposed events for this entry-level grant. The strength of these applications were in the ambition to engage with young people through their proposed music events, and allowing young musicians the opportunity to showcase their music to new audiences in a safe, drug and alcohol free environment.
Applications for the Event Developmnent Grant- the second tier of Indent’s Partnership Program- showed strong promise in growing their existing events, to reach beyond their immediate communities to develop and engage further with young people through music events. Some of the teams proposed to incorporate their events into larger scale events, such as hosting a Youth-stage at a festival, further encouraging and developing a sustainable youth music scene.
Reaching as far West as Broken Hill, Byron Bay to the North, Bega to the South and a healthy peppering of metro areas, Indent is proud to be able to support these young teams to stage their very own events for the youth of their communities.
As ongoing support Indent will host workshops, mentoring opportunities, develop resources and include the Indent Open Day on Friday March 11, 2011.
