The Initiation are a Sydney based band with a contemporary melodic rock sound that recalls artists such as Paramore, Fall Out Boy and Jimmy Eat World. They have toured extensively throughout Australia and played along side Trial Kennedy, Ivoryline (USA) and Washington to name a few. The Initiation honors the tried and tested guidelines for great music; strong melody, memorable hooks, and an ability to balance the amazingly powerful with the sublimely subtle.
What was the first band you saw live?
Davey: I remember seeing Tommy Emmanuel when i was about 5 years old. It was Awesome!
What’d you learn from them?
Davey: I learnt that guitar is pretty much the coolest thing in the world. Get One Now!
Got any pre-gig rituals?
Davey: I always do vocal and guitar warm ups. Besides that i like to get to a gig pretty early, have dinner, and relax. I don’t like to rush or feel stressed before i play.
What do you think the most important issue facing artists in NSW is?
Davey: It’s not so much bad right now, but it is scary that more and more venue’s are not having live music because they are making more money from gambling. I just hope that live music doesn’t fizzle out so much that a band in 30 years can’t even get a gig.
If you weren’t musicians, what do you reckon you’d be doing?
Davey: Hmmm… Making guitars would be interesting.
Acting has always been a bit of fun.
Doctor/ Lawyer/ Judge would be great although i don’t know if i could handle that much Uni.
I also like timber.
