Two unsigned acts have been announced today as the winners of the Australian radio industry’s search for the next big on-air discovery, the New Artist 2 Radio (NA2R) initiative.
The winners are Radio Ink, a three piece band from Sydney and The Smart, a four piece band from Brisbane.
Radio Ink
Electro pop band, Radio Ink, has been likened to following in the footsteps of the Sneaky Sound System and The Presets. Haling from Sydney, the band were chosen in January to be the face and sound of Vodafone’s national TV ad campaign with MTV’s Ruby Rose. The band became one of the first indie artists to chart to #1 on Austereo’s new digital station, Radar Radio.
The Smart
Electro-rock, Brisbane-based four piece band, The Smart, describes itself as unapologetically reinventing the quintessential eighties sound. The band’s first EP, “Midnight Goodnight” has been released and their debut album is being recorded.
The winners were announced on Friday at the NA2R Workshop in Melbourne and were chosen by leading music directors from radio networks around Australia.
Big congrats and thanks to all Finalists in the 2010 New Artists 2 Radio comp this year. Competition was fierce and judges had to make some tough decisions in all genres!
