?APRA| AMCOS are calling for songwriters across Australia to make their music matter at this year’s Song Summit. As part of the three day conference, Song Summit will invite songwriters to take part in a number of money can’t buy opportunities to assist with furthering songwriting development and career progression.
These include Listen to the Music – a chance for songwriters to have their work critiqued by industry experts, Play the Music – a chance for songwriters to perform within Song Summit LIVE and the UTAS Stephen Schwartz Songwriting Award – a new award which will be given to an up and coming contemporary Australian songwriter.
Taking place in Sydney from the 19 – 21 June 2010 at the Sydney Convention Centre, Song Summit forms part of Vivid Sydney (27 May – 21 June), an annual festival of light, music and ideas featuring the stunning illumination of the Sydney Opera House sails.
Listen to the Music
Returning again this year is the ever popular Listen to the Music sessions which provide a unique opportunity for songwriters to have their music heard and critiqued by a panel of leading music industry experts who will provide genuine and constructive feedback on music and songs. This year’s panel includes Pater Karpin (Head of Mercury Records Australia), Eric McCusker (songwriter, member of Mondo Rock and APRA Board Member) and Simon Moor (Head of A&R at Sony ATV Music Publishing). Other panellists will include songwriters, publishers, managers, broadcasters, producers and A&R professionals.
Play the Music
Play the Music is a chance for event attendees to perform at Song Summit LIVE; the nightly program of live musical performances around Darling Harbour. Delegates with three day tickets will have the opportunity to submit a demo for consideration and seven successful artists/bands will be offered performance spots across the three days of Song Summit.
As well as Listen to the Music and Play the Music, APRA, in conjunction with AMCAP, will present the inaugural UTAS Stephen Schwartz Songwriting Award. This prestigious new Award is valued at $10,000 and will serve to advance the career of an emerging Australian songwriter or songwriting team. The recipient will have the chance to build networks with the world’s finest composers of musical theatre, hear their work performed by some of Australia’s best musicians and receive financial assistance towards further career development.
The 2010 recipient will be announced at Song Summit during the “In Conversation with Stephen Schwartz” session on 21st June. Song Summit is a three day conference and a major creative, business development and networking expo for the music industry and includes live performances by international and local talent.
