Indents Save the Scene tour wrapped in style at Newcastle recently, after a whirlwind trek that clocked up almost 4000 Kms across NSW!
About 250 young promoters, emerging artists, bands and other interested people crammed into 33 workshop sessions, spread across 11 regions to better understand the ins and outs on event management and music business, whilst connecting with music industry professionals and networking amongst each other, in the name of all-ages entertainment.
The likes of Urthboy (The Herd / Elefant Traks) and representatives from FBi Radio, MySpace, Drum Media, Boundary Sounds, Big Day Out, Resist Records and New World Artists served up pearls of wisdom and bucket loads of ideas and advice to young attendees, intent on staging events and performing in the all-ages arena.
Between the long stretches of road and country and coastal landscape, young artists shared stories on their experiences in the all-ages scene, like the North Coasts Truancy – a young punk band that took it upon themselves to put on gigs in their parents lounge room because they couldnt access a venue to play in. Rumour has it their latest show pulled in more than 100 people!
Indent also presented attendees with information on the 2008 Partnership Grants, a round of funding specifically developed for young people aged 12-25, who plan on staging all-ages, drug and alcohol-free music events in their local area. Applications are due October 31st and more details can be found on the website www.indent.net.au.
The Save the Scene forums and workshops were funded by Indent, the peak youth all-ages entertainment project of MusicNSW and presented by Drum Media.
