If you're thinking about applying for one of the regional roles on offer but have some questions, check out the FAQs below.
Q: I want to apply for the Manager role but if I don't get it, I'd like to be considered for the Coordinator role. Is this possible?
Yes, this is fine. In the application form, just make sure you indicate which roles you’re interested in applying for - it can be both!
Q: I have a driver's licence but I don't have access to a car. Can I still apply?
To be eligible for this position you will need a full driver’s license and ready access to a car so you can easily move around your region. Petrol expenses will be covered by MusicNSW.
Q: How much travel will I have to do?
Travel dates will be scheduled in advance, and not total more than 12 overnight stays per 12 month period. Given that the areas each role will have to cover are quite large, there will be a fair amount of driving. This will either make up part of your role, be considered Time In Lieu, or be paid as additional working days, depending on the scenario. This will be negotiated with the manager.
Q: Do I need to have my own computer?
No, MusicNSW can provide you with a computer. But you will need a reliable internet
connection capable of video conferencing.
Q: I don't have a CV, can I still apply?
Your application won’t be considered unless you attach a current CV. You can find CV templates online.
Q: Am I in Regional NSW?
For the purposes of this role regional boundaries are in line with the boundaries as defined on the Regional Arts Development website:
Q: What is 'Regional'?
Regional is all of NSW outside the greater Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong areas. This is the definition of the state and federal government arts departments. It excludes cities with a population greater than 100,000.
Q: What is pro-rata pay?
The definition of Pro-Rata Pay as noted on https://www.fairwork.gov.au/ is: proportionate amount of money or period of time. Part-time employees generally get pro-rata entitlements, based on the number of hours worked.
You can work out your pro-rata pay, tax and superannuation using this online calculator https://paycalculator.com.au/
For example, if your annual salary is $65k, pro rata at 2 days per week, you will earn approximately $26k before tax (? of a full time wage).
Q: If I am successful, what is the start date?
1 March 2023
Q: Will I have flexible work hours?
To some extent. Given the need to collaborate with colleagues, there will be some negotiating between the positions about which days people work. Our preference is for people to work during 9-5 hours where possible, but are open to some negotiation.
Q: The Coordinator position had a note about a potential additional day. Is this confirmed?
MusicNSW is currently seeking funding to increase the four coordinator roles from 2 days to 3 days per week. This is not confirmed and is pending funding. We aim to confirm this before 1st March, 2023.
Q: I have another job, can I still apply?
Yes, if your other job is part-time and you can commit a minimum of 2 days per week to the role MusicNSW between Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm.
Q: Will I be an employee or a contractor?
You will be a part time employee on a maximum term contract.
Q: What do I need to complete the application form?
Your will need to upload:
- A PDF of your CV
- A PDF cover letter addressing the selection criteria as listed on the job description
- 2 referees. Full name, contact number, employment and position, and their relationship to you
Q: The application form requires 3 referees, who should I list?
Referees should be people you have had a professional working relationship with such as an employer or someone you have worked with on a project. They should be able to speak to your skills, experience and character.
Q: Should I upload a support letter?
No. Support letters will not be looked at.
Q: What RADO region am I based in?
You will be liaising with Regional Arts Development Offices (RADO) across the state. Find your RADO region here: http://regionalartsnsw.com.au/networks/
Q: I am a person with disability, is MusicNSW an accessible workplace?
Yes. If you have any questions around accessibility please contact jobs@musicnsw.com
Q: I don't live in a regional area currently, but would consider moving if I was offered the job. Can I apply?
No. These roles are for people who have been living and working in regional NSW for a minimum of 12 months in one place. The rationale behind this is your networks, contacts and understanding of your local community are essential to informing the work of these positions.
Q: What areas are you hiring people in? Where will the jobs be based?
We are hiring in 5 regions across NSW - so no matter where you live in regional NSW, you’re eligible to apply. We will only be hiring one person per region, so there will be 5 roles split across the state.
Q: I have more questions, who can I talk to?
MusicNSW offices are closed over the holidays from 19th December 2022 and reopen on 16th January 2023.
You can book in a 15 minute meeting via our booking calendar here. Meetings can be via phone or video call.
