For the first time ever ten of the most influential and proactive community radio music directors from around the country came together for the inaugral AMRAP Music Director Summit on the 31st of July 2009. With Amrap bringing the logistics, community radio music directors bring the talented and breaking Australian artists to the Amrap Station Recommendations Initiative.
“With a collective radar that spans the country, community radio stations are ideally placed to uncover the great wealth of Australian music talent out there,” said Simon Winkler, music director at influential community station Triple R in Melbourne. “Working together, the sector is dedicated to showcasing new
talent first, and providing fresh sounds to audiences.”
Through the Amrap Station Recommendations initiative music directors recommend artists to Amrap for distribution to community radio nationally. A ‘Station Recommended sticker appears on the release and indicates to other music directors that the artist comes highly recommended by that station. As likeminded stations follow each others recommendations, Australian artists can receive national airplay and coverage on community radio.
“With Amraps new initiative Edge Radio can take its influence on the Tasmanian music scene to a national stage by promoting music we love to likeminded community stations,” said Brad Duence, from Hobarts only youth community station Edge Radio.
