Day of the Meerkat are five guys from Sydney aiming to bring some good old rockabilly styles to the stage. It’s dirty, it’s grungy… it’s good!

1. What was the first band you saw live?
The Dead Milkmen
2. What’d you learn from them?
That it’s ok to laugh hysterically in a circle pit even when you’re getting stampeded by punks in boots. Basically, good music can include humour without being idiotic and as a punter, it’s cooler to dork out and have some fun than just be cool for cool’s sake. At that gig being cool was very uncool.
3. Got any pre-gig rituals?
We play a spazzed out game of tips out back of the venue. There’s no reason to hit a stage cold.
4. What do you think the most important issue effecting artists in NSW is today?
Getting paid properly to play live. If we divided all the hours rehearsing and nutting out new diddies by gig profits it would come out to .0000234 an hour. But I guess it ain’t about the money.
5. If you weren’t a musician what do you reckon you’d be doing?
Be a rubbish collector. In my neighborhood they only work one day a week.
