It's here! The first weekend since the lockouts were lifted If there was ever a time to get out there and dance like your life depended on it, it's now.
We've seen how vulnerable Sydney's night time culture is to political pressure and while the lifting of these laws for the CBD is great news, it's only a first tenuous step. The only way to make sure the live music industry can withstand future challenges is to make gig-going fundamental to the city's identity, so fundamental that a return to something like the lockouts would be bonkers.
So how do we do that? Show up. On the reg.
It means changing dinner party plans to “let's go get sweaty to some guitars at the Chippo” plans. It means shutting the laptop cos Queer Eye will still be streaming in the morning, and heading out to dance our faces off all night at OAF or Freda's or at a "venue TBA". It means paying the cover charge, turning up for the support acts, buying merch, rallying a crew, grabbing dinner nearby. It might even mean starting a band or having a crack at putting on a club night why not!
Ultimately it means showing through our actions that a thriving live music scene in Sydney is non-negotiable.
