MusicNSW have partnered up with Mission Australia’s Creative Youth Initiative (CYI) to present an exclusive free music workshop called “Music Could Change Your Life”, tailored specifically for the students participating in the 2015 ‘Sounds Of The Street’ course.
CYI helps to develop the creativity of young people at risk by providing a variety of free creative programs for young people. The participants are aged between 16-25 and facing challenges in their lives, such as homelessness, mental health issues, substance abuse, family breakdown or unemployment.
For over two decades, CYI have run a music program called Sounds of the Street (SOTS), a 20-week TAFE accredited music course that teaches students to compose, perform and record their own music. Not only do students have the opportunity to learn an instrument, the music they make is professionally mixed and mastered onto a CD with students performing their compositions at the annual CD launch.
On 5 May MusicNSW Education Officer (and Bluejuice singer/songwriter) Jake Stone will be running an exclusive private workshop called “Music Could Change Your Life” with the students participating in this year’s SOTS program, held at the Mission Australia building in Surry Hills. Jake Stone will be talking to the students about his personal journey into music making, giving advice on how to build a successful career in music from the ground up, tips on how to survive the industry, and sharing his thoughts on the empowering nature of creativity.
