The APRA AMCOS ATSI Music Office is seeking experienced project development consults to develop a program to deliver creative and business skills to the NSW Aboriginal music creator community.
Aboriginal music is underrepresented in many sectors of the music business. Troy Grant, Minister for the Arts, stated the new project will fund $65,000 from the NSW Government as part of their Aboriginal Arts and Cultural Strategy.
Mr. Grant explains how ” “Australian Aboriginal musicians are increasingly gaining international recognition for their work, but there are still challenges to overcome for many Indigenous musicians.”
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Victor Dominello said the support given to APRA AMCOS would bolster opportunities for talented Aboriginal musicians to gain mainstream exposure both in Australia and internationally.
The Aboriginal Music Development Project will include:
* Community consultation to identify key Aboriginal music hotspots for development
• Workshops focussing on songwriting, business management, demo and basic studio
recording, marketing and individual skill development
• Mentoring and ongoing development for three artists.
The following criteria is expected of a Project Consult to deliver:
– Partnerships built within urban and regional arts and music organizations
– Partnership development within industry peak bodies
– Map of target areas for Phases 2 and 3
– Understanding of the breadth and scope of Aboriginal music in NSW
– Understanding of the opportunities, barriers, and risks associated with workshop delivery
Essential Selection Criteria:
– Contract Partner must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
– Current Driver’s License
– Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis
– Experience and knowledge of NSW music industry
– Demonstrated capacity to deliver on time and on budget
– Ability to work under pressure
– Clear and concise oral and written skills
– Minimum of two references
– Sole trader or Company
