For the past 8 years Vivid Live has been curated by some of the world’s most respected artists such as Brian Eno, Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed and Steve Pavlovic. This year however, the will be taking a different approach. Held at the Opera House between May 25 to June 3, Vivid Live will be organised by director Fergus Linehan.
Linehan will be working with the Sydney Opera House programming team, focusing on bringing forward “artist-driven projects including unique collaborations, one-off projects and special events”.
Vivid Live have also revealed that the program will feature special commissions of new works created and performed by Sufjan Stevens, composer Nico Muhly (Björk, Philip Glass) and Bryce Dessner (The National).
Linehan has described these tree influential acts as “the defining creative minds of New York’s current music scene”.
“The main focus of my role will be to facilitate ambitious and at times outrageous ideas that enhance the contemporary music scene, celebrate the explosion of creativity that is Vivid Sydney and draw visitors to this most beautiful of cities,” Linehan said.
Vivid Live is considered one of the cities most important cultural events, a 10 day celebration of music held within Sydney’s annual Vivid Sydney festival of light, music and art. For more information head here.
