The 2012 Sydney Festival is upon us with an impressive line-up to date. Every January, Sydney Festival opens with the unique Festival First Night – a night of of music, dance and visual spectacle on the streets and in the parks of central Sydney, attracting over 200,000 people. Festival first night is always a free event and kicks off a three week ticketed and free program that reaches an audience of around 1 million people.
The festival program includes around 300 performances and 80 events performed by over 1000 artists in at least 20 venues each year. The festival features inclusive programming, a broad range of free events and accessible pricing policies for the ticketed shows meaning there is a little something for everyone to enjoy.
The program has just been released and features incredible acts such as PJ Harvey, Mike Patton’s Mondo Cane, Dinosaur Jr. frontman J. Mascis, Nasvhille indie-folkies Lambchop, the Fiery Furnaces Elanor Friedberger, Grizzly Bear member (and producer) Chris Taylor’s solo project, CANT, Washington, UK “folktronica” instigator Beth Orton, DJ Koze & Prinz Thomas, Dan Deacon, John Maus, Donny Benét and PVT, Deerhoof, the Boredoms’ DJ Yamantaka Eye, The Whitest Boy Alive, Tune-Yards.
