GARRETT ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR ‘ROCK THE SCHOOLS’ 2012 - MusicNSW

School Education Minister Peter Garrett has announced today that Australian school students with a passion for music will benefit from some new government funding for the ‘Rock the Schools’ project.

$400, 000 will be put into further developing music tours and workshops in more schools in 2012.

For those of you who are unaware of the project, ‘Rock the Schools’ is a free education and entertainment initiative that started up five years ago as a seven week tour across 6 states and 30 high schools across Australia. The project aims to inspire thousands of students across the country to follow their passion and provide them with the information and skills they need in order to pursue a career in the music industry.

This boost in funding from the Australian government will enable the ‘Rock the Schools’ tour to expand to 90 school visits in 2012.

As Mr Garrett stated in his official announcement at St Clare’s College in Waverley on Monday:

“Rock the Schools is a fantastic program that helps the musicians of tomorrow nurture their talent and follow their dreams. This extra funding will improve the service and ensure more students have access to this initiative both in school and online, at no cost to the school or parents.??“The funding provided by the Australian Government will help Rock the Schools take its tours into more schools, hold a high school band competition, develop a new comprehensive social media strategy and hold more events for communities.”
