Registrations for the Music Video Mash Up filmmaking competition have have been extended until Friday June 3.
What Is It?
MVMU is a time-based music video making competition. It’s simple:
· Bands and filmmakers register (for their respective city – Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane)
· They are then paired up randomly and given just THREE days to create, shoot, edit and submit a music video.
Bands – all you need is a recorded original song (no covers)
Filmmakers – all you need is a camera and a crew
There are stacks of prizes to be won including the winning clip playing on Video Hits, PLUS a representative from the winning band and filmmakers will be flown to the Video Hits set to be interviewed on air!

Prizes
There are over $10,000 worth of prizes across 10 different categories to be won. Here are just a few details:
General Awards
Best Overall Music Video – Winning clip will be played on Video Hits and a representative from the winning band and filmmakers will be flown to the Video Hits set to be interviewed on air. The winning band will receive a showcase spot at Bigsound 2011, one of Australia’s biggest Music Industry events, PLUS passes for the whole band to attend the conference! Filmmakers will receive passes to SPAA Fringe Conference too!
Audience Choice Award – Team members of the winning clip will each receive a 12-month subscription to FilmInk Magazine to keep up to date with industry news!
Craft Awards
These amazing prizes have already been announced for this year’s festival:
Best Songwriter – Winning band receives a voucher for recording, mixing and mastering of two new songs, courtesy of the team at Studios 301 Byron Bay!
Outstanding Marketing Potential – Winning bands receives a PR and marketing consultation package with crack music PR company Heapsaflash: Music Media Management!
Best Editor – Winning filmmaker receives a $1000 colour grade package courtesy of premiere post production facility, The Post Lounge!

The Competition – How it all works
Simply head to www.mvmu.com.au to register as a filmmaker or band. Registration covers your team’s entry into the competition, entry into the National Awards Gala and a bag of goodies to help you through the weekend. Please be aware that places are limited so it’s first in best dressed. $150 regular registration is available until June 3rd.
At launch nights in respective cities on Fri June 10th teams will be paired off randomly (check website for locations) and the 72 hours starts immediately. Once finished, clips are submitted and judged by a panel of industry experts across a number of categories (judges include the likes of Video Hits Executive Producer, Rachel Moor, ex-Dew Process music industry heavyweight and BigSound Executive Graham “Asho” Aston, and Australian Cinematographers’ Society National President and internationally acclaimed director/cinematographer Ron Johanson ACS).
All clips submitted will be screened at screening nights in their respective cities:
· Brisbane: Wednesday 6th July – Palace Centro Cinemas
· Sydney: Thursday 7th July – Palace Verona Cinemas
· Melbourne: Friday 8th July – Palace Kino Cinemas
The National Awards Gala Night then takes place Friday July 22 @ The Tivoli Theatre in Brisbane
