FBi are hugely excited to announce plans for their first ever pop-up live music venue, on the second level of the refurbished Kings Cross Hotel. Launching Friday 25th March, FBi Social will add a new dimension to FBi’s mission of helping emerging local bands break through to larger audiences.
Eight years ago FBi Radio went live to air and introduced Sydney to some of its best local talent. In that time, we’ve gone from a standing start to over a quarter of a million listeners per week and helped scores of bands reach a wider audience. A few times a year FBi puts on events that enable our various communities to gather and converge, but until now there has been no place for FBi’s listeners to regularly come together.
Located across from the iconic Coca Cola sign in the Cross, FBi Social is a 200 person capacity, 24-hour licensed venue that will host a series of weekly nights for an exciting 12 week trial period. FBi will broadcast a number of on air shows live from the venue and we hope to program an eclectic mix of gigs that reflects FBi’s varied playlist.
The Kings Cross Hotel has been completely refurbished and returned to its roots as a late night dive bar attracting a melting pot of colourful locals and live music fans. Kings Cross was once a thriving cultural district and it is hoped that the Kings Cross Hotel and FBi Social can work with other venues as an alternative to the increasing gentrification of one of Sydney’s remaining late night entertainment precincts.
FBi’s President, Cassandra Wilkinson, says: “FBi’s mission is to get Sydney music the big audience it deserves. For seven years we’ve been breaking new acts on air and now we’re going to get them on stage. FBi Social – just like the station – is for everyone who loves Sydney music.”
FBi Social will endeavour to make sure that Sydney has a venue that mixes the best bands we already love with those that are yet to be discovered. Just like on air, these bands and DJ’s will represent a wide variety of Sydney music talent.
To kicks things off, they’re putting on three parties that you definitely want to know about.
First up, they want to give FBi supporters a chance to check it out before anyone by joining FBi on Wednesday, March 23 for A Night of Firsts: the first beer to be poured, the first DJs to play, the first spontaneous conga line and the first child to be conceived in the loos!
Doors open at 7.30pm and the lineup is a collision of FBi’s favourite DJs: Moriarty, Kato, Bad Ezzy and Boonie. For a chance to win a double pass, email offers@fbiradio.com with the subject line “A Night Of Firsts”. Make sure you include your supporter number and contact phone number.
Then on Friday, March 25 we’ve got another epic party featuring United Colours DJs, Death Strobe DJs, Frames, McInnes and Felix Lloyd (Mum DJs). It’s open to all and gets going from 10pm.
If you’re still standing by Saturday night, we’d love to see you again on March 26 from 8pm for Dance To The Radio featuring a stellar lineup including Underlights, Sister Jane, Tin Sparrow, Brown Bear Black Bear, I Know Leopard, Glass Vaults (NZ) and DJSSSSSSSSSS galore. It’s only 12 bucks and kicks on ’til late.
