What was the first band you saw live?
I think it was Ben Harper and Jack Johnson when I was about 16.
What’d you learn from them?
That if you change a song quite dramatically when you play it live because you’re bored with it, it probably won’t go down very well. Often people coming to watch really like the original.
Got any pre-gig rituals?
Making sure my guitar is plugged in… That’s about it.
What do you think the most important issue facing artists in NSW is?
Probably that there are so many of us. Also, I hear that grants in NSW for music are sparse. But I don’t know to what extent that this affects artists.
If you weren’t a musician, what do you reckon you’d be doing?
I’d probably be a 12th century knight. Fighting entire armies, and rescuing damsels in distress.
