The Whichway EP’s have been going great guns this year. The four artists selected to participate in the EP project were Ngaratya (Sydney), Yung Nooky (Nowra), PJ Gordon (Orange) and Dan Stockley (Newcastle). Yung Nooky launched his EP last Sunday playing support for Urthboy while playing the Sydney leg of the Indent 10 Year Tour. Nooky worked with Sydney Hip Hop legend Ozi Batla who helped produce the EP and procured beats from Chasm. The EP will have the hip hop heads noddin with Nooky’s unique conscious club banging sound.
PJ Gordon recorded his EP with the help of respected country producer/sound engineer Simon Johnson. PJ’s EP ‘Ngemba Country’ is a testament to PJ’s roots with his undoubtable classic Koori country styles. Whichway launched PJ’s EP at the Indigenous Rugby League Knock Out in Woy Woy last Saturday to a sell out crowd. PJ was supported by Aboriginal blues legend Buddy Knox and Newcastle favorite Rod Smith. PJ is poised to become a very familiar name in Indigenous Country music.
Ngaratya and Dan Stockley EPs launches are still in the works but the EP’s are definitely shaping up to be something very special. Dan Stockley recorded his EP with well know producer Ian Pritchett (Angus and Julia Stone, the Beautiful Girls) and have definitely come up with something very special. Dan has a unique roots/folk sound that will certainly turn a few heads when released. Ngaratgya are a family affair with sisters Alicia and Emily Johnson completing the 2 peice. The girls have got something special with their sound which has been aptly described as “Missy Higgens with tons of soul”. Their EP was produced by respected Sydney producer David Skeet.
