The Tuned In Festival will be held in Dubbo on Sunday 30 May, 2010 and is organised by the New South Reconciliation Council (NSWRC). The NSWRC is a not for profit, community organisation focused on improving relationships and understanding between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians.
A mix of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Hip Hop and Indie Pop artists will come together for this special event including; Urthboy, Last Kinection, The Jezabels and special guests, Loathing Stacy.
Urthboy is a leading Australian Hip Hop artist known for his commitment to social justice and raising consciousness on political issues. In 2008, following the Apology, Urthboy was part of “The GetUp Mob”, who released a version of the iconic song “From Little Things Big Things Grow”. The song featured the original song writers, Kevin Carmody and Paul Kelly, as well as many other prominent Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal artists.
For the first time in the ten year history of the NSWRC, the major Reconciliation Week event will be held outside of Sydney as an all ages, drug and alcohol free concert.
“It is has been ten years since thousands of people walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to show support for the reconciliation movement.
A lot of people were too young to fully understand that significant event and may not have a clear idea about what reconciliation is about.
Tuned In, aims to engage the next generation to continue on the progress already made in achieving a reconciled nation” Said Julian Boswell, Tuned In organiser.
Reconciliation Week is held 27 May to 3 June each year and provides the opportunity for all Australians to come together.
The NSW Reconciliation Week theme in 2010 is Reconciliation: The Road Ahead.
