Scholarship at Coffs Harbour Conservatorium - MusicNSW

Every two years Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium invites young musicians from the Coffs Harbour, Bellingen and Nambucca Shires to apply for the prestigious Helfgott Scholarships.

These scholarships were established in 1998 as a way of acknowledging the huge input of David and Gillian Helfgott to the musical life of the Coffs Coast. The aim of the scholarships is to foster learning and enjoyment of music, and to provide an opportunity for young musicians to pursue advanced study of a musical instrument or singing.

There are two scholarships on offer, each valued at $3,000 each. The 2010 David Helfgott Scholarship is for young instrumentalists up to the age of 21 years. Any instrument and any style of music. The 2010 Gillian Helfgott Scholarship is available for singers aged up to 25 years, any vocal style. A successful applicant will be able to demonstrate talent, potential and a dedication to serious music studies.

Applications for scholarships are invited now, and the forms and guidelines are available from the Conservatorium office, by telephoning 6652 1592. Applications close at midday Saturday 3 July.
