Last night’s budget announcement secured funding for two initiatives supporting the development of contemporary music in this country.
Funding for the 2010–11 Contemporary Music Touring Program has been increased in this Budget to increase regional communities access to new talent, helping artists grow their careers while providing local economies with the benefits from tours by emerging musicians.
The Government also announced $260 000 over three years for CONTROL: The Business of Music Management – an intensive training program to improve the business skills of music industry managers. This will address a gap identified in the Australian contemporary music industry and help build sustainable music businesses.
Under this year’s Budget the Government will also provide ongoing base funding to the Australia Council of $686.6 million over four years. The Government will also provide funding of $3.2 million over two years for the Australia Business Arts Foundation.
