Following the success of the inaugural Song Summit in 2008, APRA|AMCOS and Events NSW are proud to present Song Summit 2010, 19-21 June at the Sydney Convention Centre.
Kicking off on the afternoon of the Saturday 19 June, and going through to Monday evening, Song Summit will feature keynote speeches, “In Converstaion” interviews with international and homegrown songwriting superstars, panel discussions with industry experts, hands-on creative and business workshops, and ofcouse, live music showcases.
In a grand celebration of songs and songwriters, Song Summit will conclude on Monday 21 June with the annual APRA Music Awards: a fitting end to a full weekend of music.
Registrations open in early 2010, until then here’s a tast of the speakers and sessions already announced.
International Speakers:
Mowtown legend Lamont Dozier has written songs for Martha & The Vanells, The Supremes, Manic Street, Preachers, Marvin Gayte, Backstreet Boys, Jimmy Barnes, Bliss n Eso and many more. His hit songs include “This Old Heart of Mine”, “Stop! In the name of Love”, “Baby Love” and “Reflections”.
American musical theatre lyricist and composer, Stephen Schwartz has written hit musicals Godspell (1971), Pippin (1972) and Wicked (2003). He has also contributed lyrics for a number of successful films, including Pocahontas (1995) and Enchanted (2007). He has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics, 3 Grammy awards, and 3 Academy Awards and has been nominated for 6 Tony Awards.
Writer, publisher and producers ACAP’s VP Domestiv & International Membership, Ralph Murph, returns in 2010 to share “Murphy’s Laws of Songwriting”
Berklee College of Music professor, Pat Pattison, will chair the Listening Panels where delegates will have the opportunity to have their songs reviewed and critiqued by the experts.
Music marketing and PR guru Ariel Hyatt returns to Australia in 2010 to share her apssion and expertise in using social media and internet marketing to help artist grow their fanbases and increase their income.
Local Speakers:
In a career that takes in almost two decares with Dead Can Dance, award-winning movie soundtracks and a series o acclaimed solo and collaborative albums, Lisa Gerrard is one of Australia’s most groung breaking and in-demand artists. Her schores include Balibo, Gladiator, Layer Cake, Whale Rider and Black Hawk Down.
Best known for his collaboration with Grant McLennan in The Go-Betweens, Robert Forster, is an internationally critically acclaimed songwriter and solo artist.
Paul Kelly is one of the most significant songwriters in Australia with an enduring body of work with his own bands, in addition to film scores (Lantana, Jindabyne) and songs produced/written for artists such as Mick Thomas, Renee Geyer, Kate Ceberano, Nick Cave, Nick Barker, Kasey Chambers, Yothu Yindi, Archie Roach, Missy Higgins and Troy Casser-Daley.
