ABC Managing director Mark Scott has unveiled bold plans to launch ABC globally to meet the new era of globalisation and rival BBC and CNN services.
The proposal includes an overhaul of Radio Australia and The Australian Network into one brand, five more news bureaus, a roll out in Latin America as well as in the long term providing content in Arabic and the Middle East.
This and much more came out of the proposal and Scott said the plan is about “expanding our influence in our own backyard but protecting it. We cannot abdicate our role as independent credible voice in the region”
The proposal will now be taken to the Federal Government to pitch for financial support, that will come in at a hefty price.
