It’s ARIA’s time again and this year New South Welshmen and women are dominating the nominations. Across all the nominations a mixed collective of emerging, established and legendary artists are placed on level playing field competing for the coveted gong.MusicNSW would like to congratulate each nomination, and will all the NSW artists in the running the best of luck on the night.
Sarah Blasko’s third studio album, As Day Follows Night has landed the MusicNSW featured artist (August) three nominations; Album of the Year, Best Female Artist and Best Pop Release as well as Best Cover Art for Sharon Chai and Best Video for All I Wan (Head Pictures, Damon Escott & Stephen Lance). Also up for Best Female Artist, Lisa Mitchell’s debut LP Wonder is absolutely wonderfully deserving for Best Breakthrough Artist and Best Breakthrough Single.
Blue Juice, Josh Pyke and Art vs. Science are also up for Breakthrough Artist. Bertie Blackman, Dappled Cities are up for Best Indie Release – as are Sneaky Sound System for their second album who are also competing for Best Dance Relase against Hook n Sling and The Presets who performed at last years awards. The Presets are also up, and the only NSW artist, for Highest Selling Album.
Troy Casser Daley is represeting the Best Country Album while Astronomy Class and Horrorshow (local favorites from Elefant Trax Label) are both up for Best Urban Release.
The awards are split into 28 categories – 26 of those are peer voted (industry panel of over 1,000 members). The two awards; Highest Selling Album and Highst Selling Single are based on audited sales. So far, Robbie Williams, Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy, Hilltop Hoods and Empire of the Sun are all annnounced to perform at the awards, they are happening on the 26th of November, at ACER Arena.
