Art Rush delivers an array of witty (if not a little bit cheeky) lyrics on varying topics from Penrith chicks to ice rinks and air conditioning. While the topics of chose may appear mundane, they are presented in a funky way that will have your foot tapping while you laugh.
1. What was the first band you saw live?
My first concert was Prince when I was 13…I’m proud of that. Does Prince count as a band? If not I saw the B-52’s a few months later
2. What did you learn from them?
Prince taught me the basics of how to write songs, and very importantly how to be a sexy and vulnerable male. But if we’re talking B-52’s, they taught me it was important to a have a fresh, original sound from day one.
3. Got any pre-gig rituals?
I was given a bear shaped Castle Towers mouse-pad before a gig once. I keep it in my ukulele case, and I make sure to salute the bear before every show.
4. What do you think the most important issue affecting artist in NSW is today?
Plenty of opportunities to be heard, which is fantastic and all that matters really. But I guess we’ve all got to figure out how or if it’s possible to make money out of all this stuff anymore.
5. If you weren’t a musician what do you reckon you’d be doing?
I’ve always wanted to be a soical worker, and open a youth centre or something. If I didn’t have the urge to write music I’d probably be doing that. Maybe one day I can bring the two things together.
