Indigenous Arts Research Project released - MusicNSW

Regional Arts NSW are pleased to present the final report from Research Officer Ruben Allas entitled Identification of Engagement Opportunities in the Indigenous Arts Industry in NSW.

With the assistance of funding from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) through the Emerging Indigenous Entrepreneur Initiative program, Ruben mapped existing Indigenous arts centres, art businesses and artists in NSW, explored key market areas, conducted a survey with Regional Arts Development Officers and researched relevant funding programs and services. Ruben also visited Armidale, Tamworth, Kempsey, Coffs Harbour, Broken Hill, Wilcannia and the Northern Rivers region – a trip which highlighted the limitations of information in the public domain through desktop research and the realisation that, although this research sets a solid foundation, there is still much work to be done. With the assistance of funding from Arts NSW Ruben will further develop this research over the next 6 months through a training needs analysis and skills audit of the Indigenous creative arts sector in NSW. The final report is now available on the Regional Arts NSW website: www.regionalartsnsw.com.au.
