One of Australia’s largest music retailer JB Hi Fi have stopped selling CD Singles, citing single track downloads as the cause for the fall in sales. Only 300 units were sold of the top number ones in JB Hi Fi which will see the timley demise of the CD Single.
ARIA has reported that a drop of nearly 50% in CD Single Sales in 2008 is only of assurance that this format is slowly dying. But alas the light at the end of the tunnel for the single may not be so close, online music store CHAOS has launched an “I Love Singles” campaign in reaction to JB Hi Fi’s actions. Choas have also noted that physical CD sales, including that of singles is up?!
The life of the CD single hangs in balance…
