The City Of Sydney is about to begin a campaign targeting bill-posters.
Enforcement action will commence Monday 10th November. This involves a $320 fine for first time offenders, and a $750 fine for individuals or a $1500 fine for organizations for subsequent offences.
This comes as a result of complaints of visual pollution, concerns over the environmental damage of posters disintegrating and being washed into storm water drains, and the high cost incurred by the city in removing posters. Since 2004, the City has spent $6 million removing over 790,000 posters.
There will however be designated poster pillars in eight locations across the city. The poster pillars will be cleaned once a week, on Tuesdays. The locations will be:
• Darlinghurst – Oxford Street near Liverpool Street
• Darlinghurst – Oxford Street
• Erskineville – Erskineville Road near Prospect Street
• Glebe – Bay Street near Grose Street
• Haymarket – Thomas Street near Hay Street
• Kings Cross – Bayswater Road, at Darlinghurst Road
• Kings Cross – William Street near Brougham Street
• Moore Park – Anzac Parade near Cleveland Street
