Whichway is running intensive music industry workshops May 17, 18 & 19th at the Redfern Community Centre. Up to 15 artists who are ready for music industry development will be chosen to participate. The aim of this program is to create links between Indigenous artists, industry professionals and music support organisations to develop professional skills and increase knowledge of the music industry. So far we have had a very positive response from support organisations and industry professional’s wanting to be involved in the workshops.
To follow up the workshops Whichway is taking up to five artists into SBS studios through May and August to record. The aim is to produce a CD package to promoting the Indigenous music industry and raise the profile of contemporary Indigenous music.
In other news Whichway, in conjunction with the Redfern Community Centre and Koori Radio, is running an intensive DJ introduction course at the Redfern Community Centre through June. The course will run on June 14,15,21,22 and the 23rd from 5-8pm The sessions will cover DJ techniques, scratching, beat mixing, introduction to the history of DJing and the DJ in the music industry. The course will be run by top club, hip-hop and radio Djs Leo Tanoy and David Beaumont.
